For the finale of the award season on Sunday, the 2018 Academy Awards red carpet in Los Angeles saw stars embrace colour back into their outfits after the Time’s Up blackouts.

Nicole Kidman was one of the celebrities to make a colourful sartorial choice. She donned a glossy, royal blue Armani gown, complete with a huge bow at the waist, a lengthy center slit and an exaggerated sweetheart neckline.

A surprise of the night was Emma Stone sporting the colour-blocking trend in a satin pantsuit. She paired a maroon jacket with a fuchsia pink belt tied into a bow, black cigarette pants and black stilettos.

Emily Blunt was an ethereal beauty in a baby blue, high-neck, tulle dress from Schiaparelli Couture. But the 80s style power shoulder added a touch of edge to the look.

The lead of Get Out Daniel Kaluuya brought colour into his suit with a velvet, copper jacket from Brunello Cucinelli.

One of the most popular colours of the nights however, was pink. Lady Bird actress Saoirse Ronan, wore a baby pink, strapless, custom Calvin Klein gown. The back featured a large bow that flowed into the dress’ train. Ronan finished off the look with matching satin shoes.

Black Panther’s Danai Gurira chose a figure-hugging, column dress in blush for the big event and How to Get Away with Murder’s Viola Davis shone in a Barbie pink Michael Kors number.

Whites and neutrals were also prevalent on the carpet with Best Actress nominee Margot Robbie embodying elegance in a custom-made white Chanel dress. Crystals formed a drapery along the straight cut neckline of the bodice and Robbie’s arms.

Best Actor Nominee Timothée Chalamet also opted for white with his Berluti tuxedo and bowtie. Chalamet added black patent boots for contrast.

Jane the Virgin star Gina Rodriguez was a highlight of the night in a nude, plunging princess gown, embellished with silver flecks by Zuhair Murad. To balance out the statement dress, Rodriguez’s hair was styled into a sleek ponytail.

Celebrities including Elizabeth Moss, Jane Fonda and Sam Rockwell paid subtle tributes to Time’s Up - the movement to help fight inequality in the workplace - by attaching the campaign’s pin to their outfits.

The Los Angeles Times said the leaders of the Time’s Up movement decided to “step down” for the Oscars to show “we are not an awards show protest group.”
